Things Are Looking Up

I like many have been struggling with earning what our family needs lately. Last year was going well until November when the economy took its hit. I've tried to continue to earn with our internet businesses, BUT it wasn't making it. I sent out nearly 100 resumes in the last couple of months and only got a few nibbles. So after much discussion between Robin and I... prayers etc. we decided that I should go through the training of becoming a over the road trucker.

The accelerated class I started 2 weeks ago had 42 students, yesterday just 13 were left that passed all the requirements. I was in that group, of course ;) By the end of this coming week I'll be hitting the road for an additional 14,500 miles with a driving trainer to learn the actual on the road experiences. It will be somewhat difficult for Robin and the children, but I have to earn for our needs of course. Please pray for her especially and the family generally if you would. After I get settled into the job I'll be back on this blog and some of our other online hangouts.

John-
I'm glad you checked in. I was concerned about you, Robin, and the kids.

I will continue to pray for you and your family.

I hope your new career works out. Trucking is such a tough job. Safe travels to you, John.

Great -- I agree with Kelly: "Trucking is ... a tough job"
You are responsible, organized, self motivating and sharp. You have the skills.
I read your post early Sunday morning. Later that morning prayers were said and a candle was lit.
Take Care and Good Luck.

oh --
and, Robin is all the things too: responsible, organized, self motivated and sharpe. She was remembered in our prayers too.
So: a "Take Care and Good Luck" to Robin.
P.S.: Robin, Wouldn't it be nice if one of those people who cross to the other side of the street to avoid you, offers to come over for just 15 minutes so you can take a shower?

My husband is going to do the same thing, if we can ever save up enough money to pay for the class!
Good luck, and I hope things start looking up for you soon.

You and Robin will be in my prayers, not that you ever aren't. May you be safe.

I'm really sorry things have been so difficult for you right now: the economy does suck and it's harder for everyone to make ends meet. My husband owns a transport company in Canada. I have worked in the office since our children started school full time and am well versed in the challenges faced by our drivers, many of whom have become good friends. I really hope that, for everyones' sake you have been told the reality of long distance trucking. It is more than hard work for the person on the road: it is just as hard, if not harder, a job for the wife left at home. It turns the parent at home into a single parent for weeks at a time. We see so many training schools promise big things for drivers only to have it not pan out. It is exciting to see that you are getting your on the road training with your school. Both you and your wife are used to working as a team, I'm sure this will be another example of it.
Best of luck in your new endeavours. I will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers.
Lori

I was going to do this exact same thing. You have been able to put the needs of you family in front (it would be so hard for me to leave my wife Lori behind), but you folks are special. I've decided to become a nurse instead and will start classes in the fall!
