AutismBites T-shirts, T-shirts and MORE T-shirts

Every since our magazine article came out in People, and the interview on Good Morning America, our AutismBites t-shirts have been going like hotcakes! We have had at least one person buy a t-shirt in every state except Wyoming, North Dakota and Mississippi.

The following states have 10 or more people that liked our AutismBites t-shirts sooooo much they bought some: WA, CA (50!!), UT, TX, IL, IN, FL, OH and MA. We also have 21 friends in Canada and 5 in Australia. That goes with the two from Ireland we've had before.

We'd also like to recognize those who have bought 5 or more t-shirts: L Wallace, N Boston, A Chapman, L Damiani, D Gedik (12+), A Burns, D Katkus, M Johnson, S Graham, J Connelly (25+), K Zera, D Shortliffe, C Slisher and D Grewal. J Connelly, would you please email us at autism_bites@yahoo.com and tell us what you are doing with all those t-shirts? Thanks! Also, to anyone who has bought an AutismBites t-shirt, please tell us your story, any experiences with the shirts and why you like them.

Here are some of the most popular choices people have purchased:

Thanks to everyone! If some of you are wondering where Mom is and why she has not blogged recently, well... She is diligently trying to answer the email we've been getting. We've received A LOT.

Off topic but:
on your intro thing you say you want to help other 'autistic parents' - are you two autistic? If not, that statement is kind of misleading. It bothers me when people describe themselves as 'an autism mom' or whatever, when what they mean is that they are really a non-autistic parent of an autistic child.

Ettina,

True enough what you say. I guess I'm just a bit lazy by saying we are "autistic parents" instead of "we are non-autistic people who are parents of 3 children with Aspergers Syndrome, 2 that have classic autism and one that has Pervasive Developmental Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified."

Hello! I happened across your article in People magazine while I was having my hair done. As I was reading your story, I was very touched, for I have a 9 year old son with Autism. He was diagnosed when he was two and a half or three years old. I love the shirts! Hope to be able to buy him two or three, anything to help spread the word about this rapidly spreading disease. And don't you worry about the ignorant and stupid persons who left messages on the GMA that don't have a clue. That's why God gave these children to people like us. :-) Take Care!

Just some advice-

with all the publicity being generated you need to post more so people will see this is an active site.

Thanks!

LOVING the tshirts and the website..my mom sent me the article from Mass (where im from) we are stationed in Hawaii with the Army..we have 5 year old Diari who was NOT autistic when he was born..he caught the RSV virus at 3 months old from another child playing with my older son and ended up on full life support for 34 days at Mass General PICU in Boston,Ma..the drugs from the intubation brought on the autism which was clearly stated in consent forms to intubate but i wasnt really thinking about the what if's..just saving my child..our days are long and nights longer..ABA saved his life..and having a skills trainer..he does well in MOST things in school..ALWAYS an issue of some kind though..we HAVE to laugh at things he does and says..arent our Auties so honest and goofy? the things they say so bluntly are things we are thinking most of the time ...haha..i am passing your website along to ALOT of friends..in many states..teachers,relatives,therapists, docs..etc..hope it brings you all a ton of new clients..:) be well...have a laugh today as i know you will..and God Bless.!

You will probably delete this, but whatever.

I find the T-shirts disgusting. Why draw more attention to your children then necessary? Why use autism as an excuse for bad behavior?

In response to the mom who took offense to your blog.. I, too have an autistic son, though mine is also afflicted with tuberous sclerosis complex. He is now 20 years old, and every day with him is both challenging and precious. I love the t-shirts and I hope to soon be able to purchase several. The parents of autistic kids need all of the help that they can get. God Bless.

Anonymous,
I don't think anyone is advocating using "autism as an excuse for bad behavior", but realistically children with autism will in a lot of circumstances act differently, and sometimes their behavior will be disruptive. If there is something available that offers some sort of explanation in a way that can make the situation less awkward for everyone involved, then I say by all means use it. Do you have a better suggestion?
