Life with six children with autism practically defies description

The title above is my favorite quote from the newspaper story that came out today about our family. It was on the front page above the fold of the Salt Lake City newspaper, The Deseret News. Click here for the full story. The reporter, Angie Welling did a GREAT job. She got our quotes right, told about our t-shirt site (www.AutismBites.com) matched all of the pictures of the children with their names and told our story with compassion and humor. The way we like to tell it. The only mistake was this blogs address, I emailed her and hope it is fixed on the newspapers website. Don't want people going to a website that has a name close to ours, we want people to read about US! ; )

I guess our anonymity is gone now as far as this blog goes especially. If people want to come to our house to see the family who has the most Autistic kids...well, we worry about safety in this world today. But, we will gladly take donations dropped into out mailbox beside the door. : )

Anyway, please leave comments on the article, us, the children, questions or whatever.

Dad

You two are amazing. We all should learn from your example and keep going no matter what. Most parents don't make the effort to understand their 'normal' children, let alone their special needs kids! Thank you so much for the article! I have two autistic grandchildren and a son who has sensory integration. Most people don't understand what their needs are or just what special children they are.

GREAT Article there:) I enjoyed reading about your family. I really appreciate your sense of humor too-you basically have to have it , dealing with kids with Special needs (I have one too!)

Thank you for your candor and honesty. Also, kudos to the Deseret News for running your story. I have a 6 year old autistic son. So much of what you shared has been our family's experience. Love the t-shirts and can't wait to put them on my son. Stay strong and keep that sense of humor!

You guys are great! What a fantastic story. I can't even imagine how tired you must be. We just have one child with autism (two other boys) and we're exhausted. You amaze me. We love the shirts. I think we'll order 5.

Wonderful article. I live in MO and have a 6-yr old son with autism. Everyday is a challenge...but I know we are blessed!

Hi, Guys! I also live in Murray and have two sons with autism. Wow, what you are doing with your sense of humor is terrific. I have never wanted pity, especially because we laugh around here so much. As the kids get older, they seem to be getting easier. Maybe it's just we've had more years with them? I don't know. But, I think that the name AUTISM BITES is the best term that has come around yet! Keep up the good work, guys! And yes, I'm going to buy up your t-shirt store! -- Laurie

Oh, one more question-- are your kids in the Murray School District? We have had great success with the special education here. Love to hear from you folks-- lauriejudd@gmail.com

I just read, and enjoyed, your story. It may seem odd to enjoy a story about a family with such big challenges. But you are an inspiration to those of us with much lower Armegeddon levels! One 14 yr old on the spectrum and a 12 yr old who is not are plenty for us. Keep on keepin' on.

I was very touched by your story. I can't imagine going through what you are. I have 5 kids, and feel like you sometimes and they are all "normal". Your attitude is amazing, and your children are blessed to have you as parents.

Have you not looked into a cause for your children's autism? Have you had testing done to see if they are mercury toxic? Much information is available now in that area. Especially since your older children are more severe all the way down to your youngest child being PDD, born about the time mercury was being taken out of many vaccines. www.generationrescue.org Good luck with your children, i'm sure it is a handfull.

Hope,

Yes and yes. We are also involved with a genetic Autism study conducted by the University of Utah.

All of the children had shots the first couple of years. Except the baby, Mary, she has never had any shots. Check out the very first blog and you'll see that their level of Autism follows no pattern

It's still a spectrum...
